Refunds to Cancelled or Expired Cards

Refund Destinations

Refunds can only be sent back to the original payment method used for the original payment. It’s not possible to send a refund to a different destination (e.g., another card or bank account).

What if the customer's card has expired, or been cancelled?

Refunds to expired or cancelled cards are handled by the customer’s card issuer.
  • In most cases, their bank will transfer the funds to the customer via one of their other accounts.
  • In rare cases, a refund may fail due to the customer no longer being with the card issuer.
NOTE: You should always attempt to refund card payments through Stripe (via FranScape).

As a last resort, if the Stripe refund has failed and cannot be processed, you can process a bank transfer.
